What kind of name is "Youthworker Movement?"
The steering committee considered several names for this movement. They decided not to settle on a name yet, but just to call it a movement. Movement stuck as a name and everybody knows it as the YouthWorker Movement now.
Who is in charge of the YWM?
After its start as a part of the Young People's Ministries of the United Methodist General Board of Discipleship, the YouthWorker Movement was "planted" as a self governed organization. The Center for Youth Ministry Excellence was formed as a corporation with a board of directors who are all youthworkers. The primary ministry of the CYMX is the YouthWorker Movement.
The board of CYMX is Rev. Micheal Selleck, Chair, author of UMY Handbook and Director of Connectional Ministries of North Georgia; June Willson, Director of Age Level Ministries of South Carolina; Charles Harrision, youthworker and founder of Center for Wesleyan Renewal; and Amy Valdez Barker, minister with youth at 1st UMC in Athens, GA. This board is responsible for fiduciary responsibilities.
Direction for the “movement” is set by a steering committee for the YouthWorker Movement. The steering committee has been making the big decisions as we have grown. The steering committee members are elected at the annual meeting of Covenant Members and serve three year terms.
The General Board of Discipleship in consultation with the steering committee and the Foundation For Evangelism named Rev. Terry B. Carty as the Executive Director in January of 2005. The board of CYMX affirmed his appointment as CEO of the new organization. He is a 35 year veteran youthworker who began as a church league youth softball coach and has since served in youth ministry at congregational, district, conference, jurisdictional, and denominational levels. He was one of the founders of the Mountain T.O.P. mission program and served in local church youth group ministry for 21 years before his call to serve beyond the local church.
The office for the Youthworker Movement is housed at the McKendree Christian Life Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

If Membership is free, where does the money come from? How will this movement be sustained?
An initial gift from a generous benefactor through the Foundation for Evangelism launched the YouthWorker Movement. The initial funds are not dwindling and the YouthWorker Movement is seeking new resources. Some of our Partners in Ministry reward the YWM financially when members purchase their products/services, but this is not a large revenue stream. The Covenant Member annual fee only funds direct costs of Covenant Member benefits.
Future funding will depend upon the generosity of those who will contribute to support this ministry to youthworkers. If you are able to make a contribution or can encourage others to contribute, thousands of youthworkers who have free active memberships will be benefited.
To contribute make checks payable to Center for Youth Ministry Excellence and mail to YouthWorker Movement, PO Box 331927, Nashville, TN 37203. THANK YOU!
